I am think about making a pond in my back yard a small pond

about 100-200 gallons

does a pound havt to have a rubber linner in it the grond around my house

hold water realy well

it would have to have some kind of liner , water would quickly soak into the ground .

in the old days they used a layer of clay about a foot thick. you can't cheat on the clay it has to be thick or it will leak.

That's a lot of clay to pay for. An 100 -200 gallon pond is pretty small, so flexible pond liner that you buy at a garden store won't cost too much. I would just go with that. It's a lot easier to use than those preformed ones and a lot more reliable than clay would be.

so I can make my pond with out putting liner in it cause I have a 20 foot layers of natural clay under my house and yard.

yeah but make sure it is pure clay with no little section of soil if there is soil then it will leak
anther way is to line it with cement then put a seal on it so the water can not go threw

OK cool. Ill see what happens to the water if I fill it up, if it leaks I will put liner in the pond, if not I mite use it with out liner.
