today I checked my water parameters and it shows
ammonia 0 ppm
nitrite 5 ppm
nitrate 160
pH 7.5
and I did water change and checked the nitrite level and it says its still high
what shall I do

Probably the best thing you can do is just keeping changing water until you get the nitrites down. Also, you want to keep your nitrates much lower as well, ore like 20 to 30 ppm. (nitrate becomes toxic at 40 ppm and can also promote fish diesase).

Sounds as if there might be some other problem going on. A couple of quick questions-
How big is the tank and what fish are in it?
Have you changed any filter media lately?
Is it possible that your a feeding too much (more than your fish can consume in 2 minutes, once a day)?
Also, does your tap water have nitrates or trites in it?

hey benediktj hmm I think my nitrates leevel is at max its 160 ppm and nitrates at 5 ppm. my ammonia rate is 0 ppm. because of nitrates too high I put two water plants today. yesterday I did a 60 % water change and today I did 15% water change. I think the nitrites level aint going down. I havent changed anything in my filter.
I've got about 10 gallon tank and I ve got 3 tiger barbs,on of them has gone fat and I think its pregnant and also suffered from fin rot, 2 gold barbs- one of them sufffered from fin rot asswell and bosemani rainbow fish. all these fishes are under 4 cm long. I put declorinator, bacterlife sppeds up nitrogen cycle, cycle consumes ammonia and nitites when I change water.
I've got fluval plus 1 foam filter
rena air pump
interpet heater which is set to 26 but my thermometer interpet shows 29.
I don't know why I can't bring nitrites down by water change.
I am using a master test kit.

Make sure your test kit is accurate. Test some bottled water which should register 0 nitrate. Then test your tap water. Some areas, especially rural/farming areas have high nitrates in the water supply.
