I purchased what I thought were four Rosy Barb at my LFS.

Now that I am looking at them (to try and ID male versus female) - one is all red (the male I assume). The others are all red except for the underside which is white/silver. I thought the femailes were just the opposite - all white/silver with red on the bottom.

Any ideas?

Males are a deep red color while females are a deeper yellow color.

Females are duller color. Males are bright, sometimes blood red while females less so. Females are often plumper too.

I have a rosy barb and it seems as if he is more of an orange color, with a yellow streak on top and a white/silver on the bottom. Will they lose color due to the gravel? It is a light color..
he is quite the character though a lot of fun to watch when he plays with my black shark, surprisingly they get a long really well. No aggression shown. Cool
