|

Hi All,
My Tropical tank is suffering from very cloudy/murky water. I have half emptied the tank and refilled three times, I have used a water cleaner solution, but still the water remains this murky yellow colour.
My tank is the Trigon 190, with a community of various fish (rainbows, silver sharks, tatra's, barbs, etc) and has a sand base. Can anyone advise me of what the potential problem could be?
Thanks,
Nozza |

yellow? are you running peat in the filter? Drift wood? It could be a number of things... Did you add some rock? What type of substrate are you using?
if the tank is new, it's probably a bact. bloom, happens a lot in new tanks...
btw, why did you post this in the DIY section? _________________ 20g planted - 1.5 wpg - pea gravel/sand/laterite - DIY co2 |

I am not running a peat filter or drift wood, but I have certainly put a couple of rocks into the tank. Certainly didn't think it would have the impact it has. The tank is not new, in fact it is almost three years old and this is the first time it has happened.
Greatly appreciate your feeedback. And the reason for DIY, I am new to this site and didn't see the Chemical section.
Again, thanks for your help. |

Do you run carbon in your filter? If not adding some may help with the discoloration.
If you do run carbon. How long has it been since you have changed it? I have read that old carbon can leech contaminants back into the water. |

| I have not been running carbon for a couple of years now, but I will try adding that back into the filters. Thanks. |

what happend to the fish when you did this? did you replace all the water or like 10-40%? if you replaced all of it you would of course have a small cycle.
how big is your tank? what sortof substrate/gravel do you have?
I would remove the rocks asap just in case.

Hi Andrew,
I fully refilled the tank each time. I ahve a Trigon 190 (190 ltr tank), with a sand subtrate. I have already taken out the two rocks I added, and I am now hoping that will help celar the water. I also plan to add a carbon filter back into the internal filter. Any other advice is greatly appreiated.
Fortunately the fish ahve not been affected by the colouration and seem to be doing really well, despite it.
Thanks,
Nozza |
