|
|
| I am getting a 125 gallon tank. And I need a protien skimmer for it. I've heard mixed things about which is best for your money. I only have around 175 dollars to spend on it... what are your recomendations? |

For $175 your options at the LFS will be rather poor, so I definately feel that you will want to mail order your skimmer. I have had good success in ordering from http://www.thatpetplace.com
If you have a sump system, then you will definately see better benefits from your skimmer, as more organic waste collects at the surface of the water column and the "skimming" action of the overflow will allow the skimmer a better opportunity for success. This may be the biggest flaw in most hang-on units, is that they do not surface skim.
I like the units recommended above by Filtration Master, as they are resonably priced and do an efficient job. Please take the time to read the article posted by FloridaBoy, so that you can understand the differences from one skimmer model to the next and shop with a Protein Skimmer 101 degree!
Good luck with the tank,
