Scientific Name: Tilapia snyderae
Family: Cichlidae
Origin: West Africa -> Cameroon, Lake Bermin
Adult size: 5"
Diet: Omnivore
Care: Easy
pH: 6.5-7.5
Hardness: Variable
Temperature: 70-80 F
Minimum Tank Size: 20 Gallon
My Comments:
I've found this to be a very enjoyable West African cichlid to work with. It seems to adapt well to a variety of tank conditions. They turn a deep red when in breeding coloration with a dark black belly. Males get slightly larger, maxing out around 5 inches, while females get to be about 3 inches. Pairs spawn in a cave and guard the spawning territory with much aggression. Parents guard the young well, but after the fry become free swimming the male often becomes hyper-aggressive towards the female and has to be removed. _________________

I'm not really sure what constitutes "done" since I've gotten no comments. I'm OK with it as is. _________________

I don't think many people have kept this species in order to comment on it, and your submission is fine, so it's "Ready". "Done" is what I write on the subject when I get around to adding it to the Gallery... _________________ Are you a Fish-HAVER or a Fish-KEEPER?

Did you know this species is on the IUCN Redlist? I added my own comment on the page to mention that... _________________ Are you a Fish-HAVER or a Fish-KEEPER?

Marcos, I was thinking on the gallery maybe to add a part to mention if the fish in question is on the red list? _________________ "Feminae bene moratea historiam raro faciunt" |

Yes, I did. I really appreciate your mention of it...I should have thought to add that. I've got a batch growing out and already pairing up and I'm really hoping to find some good hobbyists to sell them to this summer that will breed them and maintain a population. _________________
