So. Long story short: My mother died a few months ago and one of my dad's friends moved in with us. Today she walks into my room and hands me a bag.
I am abruptly the owner of two walmart crabs. Presumably fiddler crabs, male and famale maybe. One has a large claw. These can not go into my freshwater tank housing my cories. I am setting up a ten gallon with wet and dry area right now. But.
what DO. What care do they need, what do they eat, I know they probably need calcium, how do I get them that, is a male and female okay, dgkljshdkgjhsdg.
Pets are not gifts, woman. |

Update: They survived the night and day and seem to be happy. The female is missing four legs and the male is missing one. They readily eat food and appear to be doing well.
Female likes freezedried shrimp.

I know nothing about them, but it looks like a nice setup.
I enjoyed the title of your post. _________________ Dumpster Tank

I'm kinda having fun with it. I just tell people, "Woman gave me crabs." without explaining anything at first.
They're still doing well and I can see a bit of leg regrowth on the female. They've settled in nicely. |

...I'm not quite sure how leg regrowth is supposed to work. Female had about 1cm of regrowth this morning. Then she molted. LEGS ARE 100% REGROWN AND FUNCTIONAL.

Glad you are enjoying your crabs.
Have to agree, it *is* pretty amazing how some crustaceans can magically regrow limbs! _________________ Fishing in the Rivers of Light |

You are right... people shouldn't give pets as unexpected gifts.
But, these crabs were very fortunate to have been given to you. Looks like a really nice home for them. _________________ 135 gln. freshwater tank

The female molted again, but the male still has not yet molted once since I got them. The female is much larger than he is now. Should I be concerned? |
