Hey gang, long time no see.
I'm working at a LFS now and I wanted to use the rather impressive cost+10% staff pricing in order to upgrade to a more modern tank design, and improve my volume at the same time.
I'm looking at a 55 Gallon Kit that's going to come with a Fluval C4, and I was wondering how anyone felt they stacked up when compared to the AquaClear. My only experience with a C4 has been rigging it to work for a tank it was certainly not designed for, and we never got it working. Anyone ever use one of these the way it was intended?
Cheers,

So, just to be fair, I thought I'd answer this myself, since nobody else has:
I recently pooched the motor on my AC20 and had difficult finding a replacement. I also was going to need a new filter basket and cover, at which point it would have been far cheaper just to replace it. This was for the Betta's tank, so I went out and bought the C2 as an emergency replacement (I couldn't really afford it, to be honest).
I'm very happy to note that it seems to have been a fortunate upgrade! The filter is quieter than ever before. The hacker in me is somewhat annoyed by being hamstrung into using the manufacturer's media (it's certainly not nearly as hackable as the AquaClear was), but I've had nothing but good results with the filter. Even with the tank in more-or-less direct sunlight, I've stopped having my persistent algae problems.
While I'd recommend the Aqua Clear to anyone over this filter, as filters go, the C-Series are a hell of a lot better than any other HOB I've used (miles beyond penguin) _________________ http://auditorandagentleman.blogspot.com - now with 100% more fish.
