I joined another fish forum but it's just not the same... I miss the way things used to be a few years ago... here's hoping a lot of the old members return, and a lot of new members join and stick around! _________________ Dumpster Tank

I've been thinking the same! Is it just me or has it been particularly quiet around here lately? |

It has been very quiet.
I've popped in at least once a day but January is a very busy time here. |

I just really enjoy the community feel of this site. I also love that this site stands firm on issues like thriving not surviving, fishless cycling, fishkeeping not fish having. Other sites are more lenient, which I suppose makes for more members, but isn't good for the fish. _________________ Dumpster Tank

Agreed - I haven't really found any other sites which are quite so 'conservative', I guess. I think this puts some people off too, which could account for some of the quietness - we've all seen people who don't take it well when they are told their fish need a bigger tank. |

Yep, very quiet indeed. Has been this way for a few months now, but gradual decline for a long time. Pity, but have seen a few communities go this way in my time. Hope it picks up again. _________________ Fishing in the Rivers of Light |

There's always been a bit of an ebb and flow but this time it doesn't seem to be picking up again.
I know a lot of the old standby members went to a different online community (for what reason I don't know...) and I joined there, but it simply cannot compare to the old AoA. _________________ Dumpster Tank

While I actively check the forums, I am not an 'active' member. I simply skim through the new content, and only open topics that I think I can contribute worthwhile information. I tend to answer questions only about US native fish, temperate water setups and diy. Or I simply answer specific questions if someone PMs me. I simply cannot contribute good information when people ask about various most tropical fish. I do do this on the forum that Nik is talking about as well.
And yes, I also miss the community how it was years ago. New material, a chat room with at least one or two people in it, etc. However, like many others, my life has gotten incredibly busy. Not only that, but we all grow and become more educated in fishkeeping. What I mean is once a member feels confident in his/her fishkeeping abilities, it is easy to just leave a forum when he/she has asked all the questions they want to ask. But then there are others who like to educate, teach and share experiences to pass knowledge onto others and stay active. |
