I have acquired a 75g tank and am seriously considered stocking it with an electric blue jack dempsey. Thoughts on an ideal setup for an EBJD would be appreciated (tankmates or not? one dempsey or a pair? what kind of decor? etc.). _________________ Dumpster Tank

Sounds like a good Idea. I would you do a pair, and if you want any fry you need a EBJD male and a BGJD female, If you don't want fry a pair of EBJD's will work fine. For tank mates you should be able to do bristle nose plecos. You could put potted Sword plants, Java fern, potted Val, maybe Aponogetons, but don't mix sword plants with bristle nose plecos.
Build a few large caves with rocks and wood, tall plants in the back with a few shorter ones to the sides of the tank works well for JD setups, just make sure that they have open space and lots of sand to play with.
You should try a "Hamburg MattenFilter" (especially if you want fry) http://www.janrigter.nl/mattenfilter/ is the best site on this filter _________________ NOTE: my avatar is a rare picture of a Youis gulliblei |
