I was working away from home for a couple of weeks , during this time my uv bulb packed up , and my oh was angling the blinds the wrong way , needless to say I came home to a major algae problem in my tank .
I treated the tank with an algae treatment between that and my young brostlenose's the tank was algae free in a week , but looks like my 5 amazon sword is dying off , one though has sent a runner to the top with 5 plantlets on it , now I'm looking for some advise as to what stage I should cut them off and how I should do it , I will pull out the dying plants and replace with the new plantlets . any advise will be much appreciated |

Algae killer kills plants!
Put some carbon in the filter & do lots of water changes, remove damaged or decaying leaves and wait & see. Leave runners attached until rooted into the substrate before detaching from the main plant. |

Some plants get hit harder than others.
Is this a plantlet or a flower spike? - if it is a flower spike remove it and if a runner pin it down. |
