|
|
Hi all, I've got this Cory who's got fungus on his mouth and his fins, his barbels are like almost all gone, and his fins have some damage too. This happened mostly while I was on vacation, and when I got back I moved him to a hospital tank. I put in some Maracyn medication(not too much because I was afraid it would harm them), but it hasn't seemed to work. Are there any other meds or ways I can cure him?
Thanks!!! |

Sounds bacterial rather than fungal.
Are they still in the bare bottomed tank?
what are the water parameters? |

He has white fluffy stuff on his fins and mouth.
Yes, he's in a bare bottomed tank now.
Yeah, that's something I probably should have checked.
The readings are approximately: Nitrate: 0-20, Nitrite: 0.5-1.0,
ppm (Total hardness): 250-425, ppm (Alkalinity/Buffering Capacity):120-180
pH: 6.4-6.8 |

It's a bit late, but never dose medications like Maracyn at low doses - always dose full dose.
You need to get that nitrite down to 0 for the fish to heal. I would start doing frequent waterchanges (making sure temperature is roughly matched so there isn't too much shock) - maybe 25% a day. Add a tiny pinch of salt to the new water before you put it in.
Sue will probably have something to add to this. _________________ Fishing in the Rivers of Light |
