I was wondering if I could plant some type of moss or grass on the bottom of my aquarium without having to empty the water. I herd java moss is the best bottom cover, is this true? What kind of plant should I use??

You don't have to empty the tank to plant it. It is a good idea to plant the tank when it is filled about a third of the way with water, but that's only for if you're planting it while you are setting up the tank.

Java Moss can be used as a ground cover plant, I have seen it in many tanks and when pulled off it can look amazing. I'm using Dwarf Hairgrass in my 75 gallon SE Asian tank right now, it hasn't really taken off yet, but it too is a popular plant for having a grass-like look. I would go to the Garden section and check out the carpet plants to find some you like, and that are suitable for your lighting conditions.

Edit: Hmmm..couldn't set a link to the Garden section?
