I've had conflicting information about this, but what is the best amount of time and what time of day is best for aquarium lights to be on?
I have a 180l planted tank in well naturally-lit room.
any advice would be appreciated, cheers. _________________ mattropical |

| It all depends on your lighting setup. What are you running? |

I'll check specifics when I get home as I'm not sure, but I know there's two tubes (pink/blue) I think the pink is to aid in photosynthesis and the blue is for a natural looking light in the tank.
I'm hoping to be able to have it lit more in the late afternoon/evening instead of during the day when I'm not home, but unsure if that would harm plant growth or the fish in any way... _________________ mattropical |

| Plants don't care when they get the light just as long as they get it. Get back with the specifics and then we can determine photo periods. |

| I am not familiar with 180l, so what are the dimentions of the tank. I am going to assume the 2x39 T5 are Normal Output, or do you know (HO or NO) |

I'm not real knowledgeable about lights but I'm learning. My only thought at this point is the blue light... is it an actnic light per chance? If it is .. they are for salt water set ups - not freshwater.
I do have my own lights on a timer that has them on for about 12 hours a day. _________________ 135 gln. freshwater tank

| 10-12 hours a day is good (maybe 12 if you are trying to get new plants started). Have the lights on when you want to enjoy the tank the most. If your tank is getting direct sunlight, wait until it is gone (or move the tank away from sunlight) before having the 'artificial' lights on as you could get tons of algae. |
