I have a feeling anybody unfortunate enough to actually be in Japan has absolutely no way to read this or respond but I am curious if this site has members from Japan and how many? Any in the hardest hit areas? I can't imagine how bad it will be if the nuclear plants do go boom. Scary! I hate to think how many fish whether pets, at stores, or at public aquariums are now belly up. And just think what it will be like when this happens in California - I bet the San Andreas fault is getting restless too! I am happy living in Alberta - big blizzards, nasty wind chill, the odd tornado and the occasional forest fire is about as bad as we get!

Shocked

I was talking to several groups of Japanese visitors on Sunday. Some had family in the affected area and they were distraught but were keeping on with their trips as they could not help by returning.

Makes us in the UK realise how fortunate we are to only have the weather to moan about.

I hope the reactor gets sorted and that the people of Japan find the strength to pull through after this tragedy.

there is a 20 km plus exclusion zone around the power plants, the loss of life is insurmountable and my heart goes out to them.

The only member I can think of from Japan is Darkblade48 who is in Gunma. I don't think that area was affected much (could be wrong), perhaps some power losses but I haven't seen him post since the earthquake.

Having lived in Japan between 2003 and 2008 I left many friends and colleagues back there, several of which are from Tohoku University in Sendai. I was able to contact one of them by e-mail, and he said they're OK, he had family in Miyagi which were successfully evacuated and are now in shelters. But still no water, gas, etc...
