This is an Oscar that had been kept in an 18"x10"x10" tank (That is 30 litres or 7.8 US gallons) for seven years;-

This photo, sorry about the poor quality, was taken by a friend of mine who adopted her when she was handed in to the aquatic store she worked at as this poor fish's owner was off to uni.

This was taken in her rescue "girls" tank although this one never spawned she was not fit enough to go in with the boys. This was after a month in a 180 litre hospital tank where most of her scales had regrown.

Even with such a fuzzy picture you can see the disproportionate head & body. The swimming angle was typical but "pinky" had other problems: When fed she would faint...... irreparable damage to her gills meant that the slightest interruption in water flow caused her to pass out.
Until this was worked out she had to be resuscitated several times until a regime was worked out and she got fed in a pop bottle with a filter outflow giving her a rapid current.

Unfortunatly one day her rescuer's daughter fell over during fish feeding time. Once the child was picked up it was too late for Pinky Crying or Very sad

Can you explain what happened in a little more detail? Who fell over and onto what? Why was the Oscar involved? Was it out of the tank? What was the cause of Pinky's death?
Very Happy

Pinky had learned to go into her bottle to be fed and was supervised in case she started to faint.
One day she had just had her food put in & child started screaming so owner dropped the bottle in the tank on it's pipe to attend child who had tripped and bashed her face on the door frame about six feet from the tank.
By the time child was picked up Pinky had fallen backwards out of the bottle into the tank, don't know if she fainted then slipped back or slipped back out of the current and then fainted & was barely alive.
Resuscitation didn't work this time.

Sad story. Sad A stunted life and then a too-short second chance.

Pinky actually had several months in the 530 litre girls' tank (happens to be one of my spare tanks! but lives 100 miles from me))

She was starting to get some colour & had lost the greyness.

The original owner was really chuffed he's kept a fish alive so long and she'd (he called her a he) grown so big. She was only about 8-9", the size she should have reached in a year.

That is incredibly sad. I am glad that she was able to live at least some of her life in a tank big enough to 'stretch her fins', though!
