I have a blood red parrot cichlid...she has become very light in color and is sluggish..she stays to bottom of tank alone also has empty waste tube..can anyone help?

The tank is 47" long 24" deep 15" wide. Water temperature is about 76 deg F. Tank was setup December 4th, 2010 and has a Fluval 404. Gravel is 3.5" deep. Some live plants.
Nitrate=40 to 80 ppm
Nitrite= 0 ppm
Total Hardness= 150ppm
Chlorine= 0ppm
Alk= 80 to 120 ppm
pH=6.8 to 7.2
No water changes to date but have topped up tank a few times.
Water source is from the tap with Aquaplus conditioner.
We just added easy balance by TetraAqua to reduce the nitrate.
There are a total of 6 blood red cichlids, 3 silver tip tetras, 5 neons, 2 glass cat fish, 4 goramis, 4 apple snails.
We feed them at about 6 am and 6 pm every day with Nutrafin Max. Once every couple of days they are given one Tubifex worms in cube form.

Hard to pin down any specifics from your description of the fish, but the above could be the issue.

I would start doing a few water changes myself, probably around 20-25%s every 1-2 days. Try and bring down the nitrate level to under 20 ppm with water changes for now; I would not use easy balance for the time being. Fish tend to respond well to clean water, and it may very well recover by itself (even if the water is not the current issue).

Throw away the easy balance as what you are seeing is typical of it's use.

Start doing daily 10% water changes adding the aqua plus dose for and to the new water to the water you add.
Do this for a week and then do weekly 25% water changes.

Thanks for the replies, the fish did not survive. We will begin doing regular water changes.
