hi I'm new here and just wondering if u guys heard of OceanFree co2 tabs?
are they good for planted tanks?

Even if you have plants, the CO2 tabs are not recommended at all.

This is because you have no method to control their dissolution, so you will get big bursts of CO2.

Even if you hook up some method of diffusion, the issue comes with sustained CO2 production.

I would recommend you either use DIY CO2, or just go directly for a pressurized CO2 setup.

Yea the tabs kinda suck, they give a Quick shot of Co2 and then gasses off.

Depending on the size of the tank and the plants you pick.


I wouldn't recommends DIY for anything larger than 40gal. The problem with larger is the number of mixtures you have to use. Example: 55 gallon I had to use 3 1gal setups to get 25-28ppm. When you have multiple bottles you also want to setup them up in 2-3 day intervals so that they ALL don't go out at once. Consistancy is KEY because if it isnt consistant then you're going to run into BBA.

Lighting and plants really determine Co2. A great product (depending on what the plants are) is Seachem Exel which is a Co2 Suppliment.
