So how old is your oldest fish? I only started in the hobby about 3 years ago, so my oldest fish are.... 3 years old. Two parrots, two silver dollars, and an albino cory are the tank veterans. There was one other albino cory who died early on, the only casualty of the original group.
My mom had a silver dollar who lived 10 years. It was the last fish left in her tank, she wanted to get rid of the tank earlier, but that darn silver dollar just kept on going. |

I have a black kuhli loach who is almost 5, we got him right when we set up the tank. Next I would say it is a 3 year old gold pristella who is still doing great. _________________ Please, oh Please can someone help me!?

Considering my tank has only had fish in it since June... I guess mine are all in the year old range, though only been living with me for 7 months. I intend to keep that number going up, though! _________________ - Rachel |

Cool thread. I'm quite interested to see what types of long-lived fish our members keep. Sadly, I don't have anything interesting to add. Most of my fish have been short-lived (2-3 year range), and I've kept the majority that long. However, we all have issues where fish die prematurely, or we have fish too big or too aggressive to keep (no exception here <--)
Right now I have fish that should live about 5-6 years, and some about 10-14 years. And now that I have the knowledge and tank space, I hope to keep them all til they reach that ripe old age!
Let's hear about those old fishies! |

I took this photo of my spotted pleco in 1997, so he's at least 15-16 years old...

Oldest currently are a bunch of nine year olds ranging form a cherry barb to a bristlenose pleco & a one eyed Y sidthimunki.
Walter, our pet Geophagus, is seven years old and still has a good decade to go.
Oldest tropical I ever had was 22 - Belontia signata and I have goldfish in my brother's pond ( moved when I moved house in 1990) that are older than this. |

I don't know how everyone can remember exactly how many years you've had your fish for...I have a horrible memory. My oldest is a Otocinclus macrospilus, I know which one he is but I can't remember how many years ago I bought him. I'm pretty sure he's at least 4, possibly 5 now. I think the second oldest is another Otocinclus macrospilus - gonna take a guess at about 3? The "display" fish I had at the time were all returned to the LFS after 1-2 years, so no other old ones on my end. _________________ Fishing in the Rivers of Light |
