Just wondering if anybody knows anything about "Plant Lux" bulbs. I am looking at a light on ebay and they would switch out the 10000's and the actinic and replace with 2x6700 and 2 x plant lux bulb. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Haven't heard of "plant lux" bulbs - do they perhaps mean the Sylvania Gro-Lux plant bulbs?

I think I have read reports that say that Odyssea is not the most reliable of brands.

That probably explains the price. I am building a new lid and it would have no moisture coming to the light unit. I will do a little research. Thanks.

I have had my Odyssea for a year with no problems. I paid 78.00 for a 48" T5Ho with 2 6700 bulbs.

I would look into TopDogSellers on ebay, he stands behind his products if there is any problems.

Also I would recommened maybe 10k bulbs. I have 6700 and I am not crazy about the yellowish hue.

Thanks DaleJr. It seems some have great luck with them and other not so much. I am mostly worried about heat and fan noise. I asked about the Plant Lux lights from the seller and the response was this..
"The Plant LUX is the SP neon mixture specially for plant growth." Kind of sounds like horse $#!+ to me.
The light is cheap enough but the shipping to Canada is over half of what the light costs. Just a little wary here. If I am spending close to $200 on this it might be a better idea to look for a mid range light in the $350 range just to assuage my pessimism.

I agree, also if I am not mistaken the Odyssea doesn't have fan but it has the holes there if you want to add them yourself. Anything from 6000K to 10,000K grows plants FINE, actinics does absolutely nothing for plants..it brings the color of the fish better, that's why they are used in Marine applications and cichlids. If anything actinic cause more algae.

Get with TopDog, he might have better Canadian Rates

edit: NO issues at all with HEAT

I have an odyssea light and I really like it, it doesn't overheat and is very quiet.
