OK so, I want to get three comet gold fish and keep them in a 60g (I already have the 60g) and I already have a filter for it to (a Rena Filstar XP2) and the gravel but the one thing I have to dicide is wether to get them when their already big ( about 5 inches w/o tail) at the store or get them when their about 2 inches
does it make much difference if I get them big is it much harder to move them in to the tank (I've only had small fish in the past).
Will they be healthier if they grow up in my big tank?
I know its not a big deal but, I just kinda want them big already so they'll look nice in the big tank |

It would be better to get them smaller, then you know how old they when they reach full grown, but be sure to get one that isn't stunted. I think that you might want a larger filter, maybe a XP3. _________________

Well does it make much of a difference if I don't know the ages?
and I can't afford a new filter, the one we have has NEVER been used |

I really want to get them bigger just so the tank will look complete faster but are there any problems with that? (other then not knowing the age) |

Why not choose a different fish that will be more appropriate for your tank?
A full grown comet is about 10" body length. |

About a year tp an overall length of 9 inches.
Not long for a fish that lives 20+ years. |

I kept a couple goldfish in a small outdoor pond, and they were very messy. Mine were about 3"-4" long. You can go with goldfish, though, but I would only recommend you putting 5 in there. As the other users have stated they grow quickly, especially in a larger aquarium like yours, so be prepared for lots of waste in the tank. If you do not fully stock your aquarium with goldfish, your filter should be fine since it is a canister filter which can take more than most power filters. You may have to clean it more frequently, though. _________________ ConvectiveWeather: www.convectiveweather.com |

Oh my gosh! I have had my three lovely comets for about nine months now and they're only about 4.5-5 inches nose to end of the tail (not exact of course, held a tape measure to the tank and tried following them around to get these numbers. kinda comical to watch actually =) Did I stunt their growth, or did my LFS do it? How does stunting happen? I was VERY misinformed at the time when I bought them. Also, totally new, so be gentle if I'm not following protocol please. _________________ I don't care how crazy I look, I'll talk to my fish if I want to! (My three lovely Comets.)
