So I saw this guy in the LFS yesterday when I went to talk to my "guy" about fertilizers. When I went in today to get them from him, it was still there. I had to buy it.

It is calling my smaller tank home. This tank originally was supposed to be set up for amazon puffers, but, when I filled it up and realized it was sold to me under incorrect volume (14 gallons is all it held!!) I decided no puffers, yes betta.

This is the best picture I could get. The colours are white, and what I'd call Blueberry juice. (that purple-blue colour)

He's very pretty!

Sad day about the undersized tank, though... I always measure my tank and calculate it myself because you just never know if they even really know the size... and some tags at stores lie about how big the tank is.

Any plans to put anything else in with him?

oh and I have had this tank lying around FOREVER... so my feelings aren't hurt about it not being the size I thought it was. Being that it is set up, I really don't know if I have the room anywhere for a 30gal that the puffers would need.

the granite pillars are core samples we scooped from an old mine site while out 4x4ing this summer. Theres about 10 of them in the tank. plus I have some water worn slate (from some waterfalls) and some other greyish rocks. Plus with the playsand.. the whole thing is quite grey. I was considering putting some plants in for colour, but when my boyfriend said "I like the grey, put colourful fish in there" I thought I would try that.

Anyone have ideas for fish that will go with the betta that are colourful?

male bettas are pretty picky about tankmates. little nippy fish like tetras will eat his fins. colorful fish that resemble him he will fight. cories, some algae eaters, and plecos work fine. as for colorful little fish, I've had "glowfish" live with bettas OK.

I have more luck with female delta bettas as you can have more than one in a tank, and they are nicely shaped and colorful.

I have a mystery snail with my betta, and they seem fine together.

You could also maybe try some shrimp?

I worry the footprint of the tank is not large enough for cories??

I could try cherry shrimp once I get some babies out of my 55g (if I ever do.... they are taking their time)

aaaaaand it went carpet surfing last night. Through a small slit at the back of the hood where the heater and filter go in.. *sigh*.

Well I am going to keep this cycled... theres tons of donated media in there from my 55 plus rock, etc. from it, so I'm going to just feed the bacteria until I decide what's going on with this tank. It is set up, and I don't want to tear it all down again...
