Hi all, 6 months ago it started with a Betta in a margarine container (from pet shop). Quickly expanded to 10 gal tank with a female & 3 zebra danios. Happy community tank!

I love challenging the many stupid misconceptions about Bettas ... they are wonderful and with some common sense, observation and regular care the tank has replaced my TV.

Looking foward to learning more...

Welcome to the forum!

The zebras need at least a 3ft tank with current. They also need a heater.

I could definitely be wrong being new to the hobby myself... but I thought I read that danios can be fin nippers?

Can be, but normally are not fin-nippers.

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

Are you saying you have the following in your 10g tank?
1 male betta
1 female betta
3 zebra danios

If so, I'm afraid you won't have a happy community tank much longer. The male and female will try to kill one another, and the danios need a lot more swimming space.

I would recommend a second tank for the female, or you can try a divider in the 10g. The danios will either need to be rehomed or you'll need to get a longer tank. Smile

Betas are loads of fun, I personally won't put one in anything less than 2-3 gallons and as a personal preference and principle, a slow current filter set up. with this set up, my betas do nothing but shine and are incredibly active. I prefer to keep the betas by themselves, but I recently added a crown tail to my 40 gal breeder colony, but I think it's a bit too big and might change it back to something smaller in a week or two.
