Hi we've just got another young giant gourami and wanted to know when they start eating different foods like peas, strawberries etc. We previously had a giant gourami that was about 14 years old and it never ate differents foods and would only really eat pellets and bugs and once a year he used to go off his food and in the end that's what we think he ended up dying of. This time we want to start this young one on all types of food so he doesn't get fussy.
Any help would be appreciated.
At the moment our young one is only about 8cm and only had it for 4 weeks. We've tried peas, lettuce and cucumber but it only looks at it.
How about ammonia, nitrite & nitrates? In a new tank these are more critical than pH.
Koi pellets are a good staple for giant gouramis and would be better for the silver dollars than the cichlid pellets.
The osphronemus down the road from me is about 30 years old and eats anything you put in the tank - fingers too if you aren't quick enough. He loves apple, courgette, chicken heart and shrimp but his base food is a mixture of koi sticks and pond mix.
Why not offer different brands mixed together but do buy small packets.
