Putting the background on:
Its messy work (for me, at least. Smile):

I discovered a large scratch on the front side, so I turned it into the back side of the tank and put the background up while it was easy to access:

The plants that Caton sent me (Thanks Caton! Very Happy):

Sitting in their bleach solution bath:

And I got one of my two filters today! Its a bit bigger than I had imagined, and may be a bit more work to hide than I had hoped... but it looks pretty simple to use, and it has good reviews.

I should be sufficiently overfiltered. I hope. Smile

Well, I'm planning on keeping the stocking pretty simple, and not too heavy.

The stocking list I have in my head right now is:
1x Synodontis catfish
10x Tiger barbs
1x Blue Acara OR Pearl eartheater cichlid (whichever I can find).

I looked the other day what my LFS has, and they appeared to have Green Terrors and JDs... neither of which I'm really looking for.

Or I may go a different direction and get angels and a schooling tetra.

I may also add a bristlenose pleco or some ottos, sometime down the road. I was just reading, though, that the plecos may enjoy the Amazon sword plant too much, and I'm not having any luck finding any driftwood. So I may go with the ottos. But they'd be the very last to go in anyway, so I have some time to decide.

No...now you know what my mom's handwriting looks like. If it were mine it would be scribbles vaguely resembling letters.

If you were to keep the barbs and return the catfish, and change out the cichlid you could have a asian tank...

LOL So if I scrap my entire stocking plan, and return my favorite fish, I could go with a biotype? Very Happy Laughing I'm less set on the barbs than I am on the syno... I mean, he can probably stay in my current tank, but I'd like him to have more swimming space.

Though I am considering going with the angelfish and a tetra instead. I'm pretty torn. I want a "largish" centerpiece fish, and cichlids seem to be the only fish that are about the size I'm looking for that don't need to be kept in schools. With either stock list... I very well may add some cories. I'm getting the sand today... was gonna grab it last night, but ended up with a grouchy baby.

My husband has also flaked out on making me a stand, so I'm going to have to do it myself (Evil or Very Mad)

Lol, right after I posted that I thought: "so really, just get rid of the stocking plan really..."

Why not do a african tank? Plenty of colorful fish, that are largeish and go with your pH.
