Due to various reasons, I decided to shut down my nano-reef and convert the tank back to freshwater. Following on from my topic in Freshwater Basics here, I think I've decided on what to put into it and so am starting a journal of my planned Corydoras tank-to-be.
Various specs:
Tank - AquaOne rimless, braceless, 50 cm x 29 cm x 29 cm (L x W x H), 42L
Filter - AquaClear 70 for the moment, looking into a nano canister
Lighting - Planned 2x Mort Bay ecoclip clip-on lamps (7w CFL or 3w LED each)
Heater - AquaOne 55w
Cooling - DIY computer fan
Planned fauna:
8-10x Microdevario kubotai
5-7x Corydoras habrosus
1-2x Otocinclus sp
Planned flora:
Cyperus helferi (if I can ever find some)
US Fissidens
Needle-leaf java fern
Anubias nana?
E. tenellus?
Amazon frogbit?
Still right at the start of putting things together, but hopefully it should be up and running soon.
Pre-cycling my filter in anticipation:
Replacing the very scratched black signwriter's vinyl for the background:

Its getting there!
What do you have in the tank you have the ac 70 on? The filter is as big as the tank _________________ I think I need a bigger tank......

Nothing, besides that random Anubias I couldn't find space for elsewhere.
It has a small internal filter and heater in it - just using it to cycle the AC70 before I fill up the real tank. _________________ Fishing in the Rivers of Light |

Looks like you trimmed the wood up a bit! It looks good! I'm pretty stoked to see what else you add to it. |

Unlike some people! *looks at self in mirror giving disapproving look*
Are you going to have only cories, and then maybe have a few female bettas, or tetra? _________________

Quit making such great tanks and we'll have lower expectations!
But seeing as how you picked out the coolest piece of wood ever... I don't think it'll be a flop. |

I wouldn't call you or your tanks are a total flop...
Planning on Microdevario kubotai for a mid-level fish - should be shiny enough to stop the Philistines from whining too much.
Having trouble with plant choices mainly.
Trying to figure out which of these planting plans to follow:
Cyperus helferi (back) & Needle leaf java fern (feature).
Positives: Good biomass, decent amount of plant cover for skittish fish
Negatives: Makes tank/wood appear smaller
Predominantly pygmy chain sword, mosses.
Positives: Makes tank appear larger
Negatives: Potentially poor biomass, not much plant cover
What do you guys think? Taking suggestions for other plans too (as long as they're low light plant compatible, no Blyxa ). _________________ Fishing in the Rivers of Light |
