if you could start over again would you skip the anemone? I'm being offered one and I don't know if it would be good because I want to have a reef tank. thanks

Beginners should avoid them all. Given the correct environment and experienced care, Bulb-tips (Entacmaea quadricolor) are maintainable, but many other species of anemones remain an enigma in most captive systems; they are certainly not impossible, but most of them can be extremely difficult to maintain for long in the "average" marine aquarium. Many of them are already bleached or in serious decline before they are sold at the retail level; and I assure you that millions upon millions have withered away within a few months of captivity. Please see more comments on anemones here:

You want to have a reef tank? Which would probably mean you do not Have reef lighting at the current time?

One major misconception is that anenome's do not need reef light. They most certainly do. Several species need very strong lighting.

I would not take the offer. Anenomes like floridaboy said is one of the more difficult things to keep. Not only becuase they are difficult to maintain but some also like to eat the rest of your tank LOL
