I just read that nannostomus eques (Brown Pencilfish) kept in high pH will only live 6-9 months.
My pH is 7.4. Can anybody tell me if they have had good experiences keeping Brown Pencilfish in pH similar to this?

ya that is correct. I've had those in a pH of 7.8. they died within a couple of weeks. if you can lower it to 7.0 that should be OK because a friend of mine his pH was 6.8 and he had a species of pencil fish can't remember which one and they lived for about two years.

hope this helps
