My husband and I were walking through the pet aisle at WalMart today, and when we do this, we usually stop so our son can take a look at all the fish. I don't know if our WalMart is just a bad example of the fish section of WalMarts, or what, but there's usually a couple dead fish, and some that are obviously sick (swimming nose down, shimmying, etc). I never buy fish from WalMart for this reason.

Today... in exactly half of the tanks... Almost every fish was dead. Crying or Very sad The water was foggy, and most of them were belly up. A few of the tanks were completely dead, but some still had some alive fish in them, all of whom were gasping at the surface and not looking so good.

Ugh. It was awful. I wanted to throw up... those poor little guys. Crying or Very sad I also felt briefly bad for the employee that works in that section who is going to have to pull out all of those dead fish... but that passed pretty quickly. The worst part... is I'm sure they'll just order more fish to sell without checking to see what killed everything so quickly.

Booooo WalMart. It's the same thing here, too.
I wish WalMart cared as much about the fish as they care about $$$.

I know, right? They would never sell puppies in cages in those conditions. (I know, Walmart doesn't sell puppies)... why do people think its OK to sell fish like that? Sad

I sometimes get fish from walmart, only if there is a good deal and I have my quarantine tank set-up

I guess I did purchase a betta from there. XD But generally... I stick to the LFS. They are far more likely to be healthy.

Plus at Walmart, I'm always worried my husband is going to want a painted fish, because of the colors, and I don't think he'd share my feelings about what is done to those fish.

The only reason that any store sell anything is that someone buys them. Do your small part. Do not buy anything that you disagree with.
