Use a piece of cuttlefish bone as sold for cage birds.

I've used both shells and cuttlebones, shells look nicer but my snails (apple, rabbit, and nerite) will actually rasp at the cuttlebone.

A small piece - say an inch - shouldn't be a problem in fact I have to use cuttlefish in my soft water tanks as I get nearly zero KH out of the tap at times.
