|
|
So I recently purchased some ghost shrimp just for kicks to serve as scavengers in my tank. As with any planted tank, I inevitably ended up with a pond snail. Since I don't really mind pond snails specifically, I just left him alone. Naturally, he laid eggs, which I also left alone. I figured I'd just keep an eye on the population and lay traps if I have to.
Today, I was looking for one of the 3 clutches I'd found and discovered it was gone. Considering another clutch laid the same day still remained, I figured the eggs couldn't have hatched, could they? I looked for the baby snails but didn't see any.
And now this evening, I looked at the other clutch and found a ghost shrimp feverishly digging through the 'gel,' peeling it away, and pulling the eggs free. It would grab one, try to eat it, spit it out, and let it float away. Roughly half the clutch has been ravaged this way.
Has anyone else noticed this? Not exactly intended but convenient! _________________ It was a dark and stormy night... |

| most likely they are killing all the snail eggs since they are scavengers. idk if they will kill the snail but theyll kill and try eat anything thats smaller then them and able to be digested. |
