Ever wonder what makes Morays so good at killing fish? Here's a little secret about Moray Eels; one of the things that makes Morays such efficient predators is they actually have a second set of hidden jaws down in their throat called pharyngeal jaws; when a Moray grabs a fish, the pharyngeal jaws actually shoot forward out of the eel _________________ Keepin' marines happy for 25 years |

It's funny that you bring this up. I actually just saw a documentary on Animal Planet about the most dangerous animals on the planet and they showed eels and talked about their second jaw. Very interesting.

You always seem to have some interesting articles on some marine species. _________________

I had a healthy respect for moray eels BEFORE I learned they had a second jaw. LOL. Those things are scary! _________________ It was a dark and stormy night... |

It's just a little e-book I am currently producing that will cover many of the topics we talk about here and expand on some of the articles I have written; primary focus will be on selection of fish and invertebrates, plus lots of tips for beginners. Hopefully we will save some livestock and encourage people about the care of their animals. Have not settled on a name yet, but I can promise this; it will have some nice underwater photography from all over the world and it will be cheap to buy. _________________ Keepin' marines happy for 25 years |
