I am planning on building a pond in my front yard, it would be approx. 6ft long and 4ft wide, what is the deepest I can have it, I was thinking like 4ft deep. What would I line it with? Could I use concrete or would I have to use pond liner? I would plant some duckweed maybe some lilies and such... If I were to do this could I keep a koi with some goldfish? Maybe some white clouds.... _________________

I think that sounds okay. go to a home depot or a store like it and see if you can find an actual pond. _________________ In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends. - Martin |

Well, in the winter we get down to -15 and -18*f, but that is cold and at night. In the summer we get up to 110*f. I figured I couldn't have koi in that size of a pond. Just wondering what would I have to do for filtration? _________________

I just had an idea, I wonder if I could do bluegill in the tank. I hear they spawn pretty easy so it can also be a source of food _________________

Idk about Bluegill either. You could do a powerhead. That is probably the best idea but somewhere on the site there is a guy who made a filter that was veryy efficient! I have no clue where it is though... _________________ In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends. - Martin |

Pond filtration works along the same lines as for aquaria.
Koi pond filters can cost as much as a car!
Try searching ebay for "pond filter" to see what is available - then follow links to suppliers. |

I was thinking of making a sump system, like having a hole off the the side that is covered and have it pump water into the sump. It would be around $70 to make and not the $200-$300 filters on ebay. _________________

A lot of people here make their own filters but use the commercial ones for inspiration.
I helped build one last year for a 3000g pond. We used two domestic water tanks but had to purchase a uv algae killer and a pump and media. For a smaller pond the pressurised systems can be cheaper and having a means to backwash or drain the filter makes care easier. |

Okay, I will be looking. Once I find/make a filter I will get back on here and ask and plan it. Thanks! _________________
