I like your plant and fish choices, however I do have an aquascaping suggestion. The white rocks are too distracting IMO. It was the first thing my eyes were drawn to in the dark background. In a nicely aquascaped aquarium, there should be no major distraction as the rocks were to me. The fish, plants, and hardscape (driftwood, rocks) should form a nice, comfortable blend. Just my two cents. Wink

Okay, so you are saying switch out the white rock's for a darker colored one's?

Here is my 29g, you think I need rocks like that?

Or you could spread them out a bit so that there isn't just a tower of them right in the middle of the tank. It makes it a focal point.

I like how the large pile of rocks look, personally... and I think it'll look even better when your plants grow in to either side.

I agree, it's best not to have a large structure like that in the middle of the aquarium. Off to the side is the way to go, as well as switching over to the darker stones.

What if I were to switch to a blue backround? Would that change the difference on how the rocks looked? I knew that stuff in the middle doesn't look that good, but I thought I'd try it anyway. The rocks aren't really exlactly in the middle anyway. The "peaks" of the rocks are in the middle. I am getting rid of the pearl grass and replacing it with some different type of foreground plant (what would you recommend?).

Thanks.

Okay, so today I went on a rock hunt and switched out the white rocks for darker ones. It is almost like a mountain in the middle of it (I know not to put it in the middle but where else? It is such a small tank...

Here are the pictures:

Tank itself

Found out that one of my shrimp is berried.

Found a handful of snails on the surface tension of the water:

Today when changing the rocks I found a dead threadfin, I am assuming stress from the trip from the LFS (a day in the bag, then after that pretty much 6 hours in the car and then the rock change's and such). I will be taking water parameters later.

Tell me what you think! Maybe what can I do different with the rocks?

I'd personally be kind of nervous about having a mountain that big smack in the middle. Maybe take off those top 3 just for weight issues? Otherwise, I think it looks fine. I like the rocky background and stony foreground with the java fern sticking out.

To heavy you say? Hmm.. Maybe a quick fix with an egg crate. don't know if you noticed but there is some java moss on the very top and I am hoping it will form a "ridge" with. But all in good time.

I just bought some micro sword to replace the pearl grass once I get that out. It should be here in a few days.

I like the rocks, however I think it's too much. As boz said, removing the 3 rocks on top for weight and design reasons, and maybe the pile towards the front for design reasons as well. This leaves those 2 larger ones in the back, and you can plant a nice garden of something in front of them.
