Fry effectively go blind at night (possibly as an energy saving measure), might help for anyone trying to catch the pesky little things. _________________ Fishing in the Rivers of Light |

Yes, zebra danios. Most people wouldn't know, but they're a very common animal used in laboratory studies. _________________ Fishing in the Rivers of Light |

They turn it off when they are not active...(is it activity levels or light levels which trigger the "turning off"? which one is more heavily weighted?
The title is misleading, I'm sure if you turn the light at night and wake them up they won't be blind anymore _________________ Get attached, love everything now, then, suffer when it comes to an end, for it will bring great meaning to one's existence. JR |

I have no problem with people raising topics from the dead unless it's a needless reply to a question already answered...
As for what causes it, if you read the paper it's buried in the "results" section I.e. that it is controlled by the circadian rhythm which is largely controlled by "daylight".
Don't see how it's misleading though, during the night period there is enough light for them to react to a sight stimulus however there is no reaction at all. Appears to take 10-20 min for them to regain sight if the light is turned on at night. _________________ Fishing in the Rivers of Light |
