| yeah I wish I knew why the Cabomba died off so much. On the right side I'm supposed to have Val's growing tall, but they don't seem to grow half the speed they used to in my 10 gallon. I'm not sure why. they are a healthy green though. Any Ideas? I should also mention that I dose a few times a week with Pfertz. I don't have any root tabs yet as the Flourite black sand should provide a lot of what the plants need. |

Another update:
I have increased my stocking by quite a bit since my last post. I also added a 2nd Canister Filter as well as a DIY CO2 Reactor. I ended up using a Spice container and mounted it to my power head. In addition I was puzzled with the lack of growth from my Vals and Cabomba. After consulting with my LFS I figured out that I was way under dosing on the fertilizer. I'm now testing for Chelated Iron, and found I was way below where I need to be. Since dosing more fertilizer I got about 8 inches of growth on my Val's within about 4 days.

The upside down bottle is my CO2 reactor. It helps the CO2 dissolve into the water more efficiently so I don't loose a lot of gas. The actual CO2 line from my tank is going into the power head so the impeller chops up the bubbles before they enter the jar. The bottom of the jar has a scotch brite pad in it so it traps the larger bubbles in the jar so they disolve before exiting. I'll try to snap some closeups tonight.
I also need to do some cleaning and probably should have before I decided to snap pictures. The Cabomba is doing better but I cheated and purchased some new ones since the first batch died off. The new ones are doing much better.
I have considered a Pleco, I need to do some reading and make some decisions soon! |
