Helo all,
I've just recently purchased 3 young juvenile pearl gouramis from my LFS for my planted community tank ( 47 gallons ). I'm just thinking is there any way to sex them yet? I know that I'm meant to look for a slightly redder colouration and longer fins for a male gourami with long and pointy fins at the top.. But they are still young and I don't know if these methods would work..
Any suggestions please??!! Very Happy

Looking at the dorsal fin is the most reliable method for me. If you look at a mixed tank it will be very obvious. Male fins will be longer, pointier and more decorative (have more obvious 'spines'). Coloration never did it for me and other fins was always hit and miss.

yea they look gorgeous! I just love em! But they are very shy I must add.. for the first 4 hours they are just hiding behind the plants sometimes coming out to check their tank mates/food or coming up for air. Lets just hope that I get 1 male and 2 females hehe Smile

They've gotten used with the environment now and are coming out to explore Very Happy they're so beautiful!! Very Happy I'm just wondering is a siamese fighting fish (male) compatible with them? I've heard people say no and yes.. >.< I'm confused.

Probably because stocking is never an exact science - there is always the exception to any recommendation. All we do is say what we think is right or will happen. Wink

I would put my money on this one not working - bettas typically don't mix well with any anabatoid males.
