Yesterday I finally finished converting my 28L tank into a split betta tank (with a piece of plexiglass as a divider). I put my two betta's in, one on each side, they swam around for a while but once they saw eachother they started flaring and trying to fight. They have been doing this for nearly 24hrs now, and of course they can't hurt eachother because of the divider, but is this going to be 2 stressful for them? How long should I leave it before I just give up on the idea?

Give up now. 28L is too small to divide and it is cruel to keep Bettas in full viewof each other.
Plexiglas is unsuitable as a tank divider as you would need two heaters and two filters.

The plexiglass has hole so the water is circulating and I have 2 heaters. Everyone tells me that betta's don't like big tanks?? That's why I converted my smaller tank rather than a bigger one

Think about this: If you were a fish would you like to be in smaller tanks? I think not. Please return the bettas to your LFS

Well I'm not a fish and I was only asking a question because I care about their welfare. Thanks anyway...

Its probably okay for one betta, two is the problematic part.

It's not so much that they hate larger tanks, just that conditions in larger community tanks don't tend to suit them as well as smaller tanks.

Have rethought my idea and they both are now in their separate tanks and swimming happily. So no I won't be taking them back to the LFS but thanks for the advice...
