I have this fish that I know is not a platy, I got it at wal-mart so I think I got ripped off but I know I am trying to figure out if it is a hybrid or what, here is a video, I couldn't get a good picture so...

Oh, and yes that is the new burn notice in the backround Laughing

It would have helped if you told us which of the dozen fish in that tank you wanted to identify, but with the exception of the oto on the right glass you can called everybody else a platy. Just about all platies sold in the hobby nowadays are hybrids.

If I am interpreting Caton's video correctly, the fish he pointed to with his finger (the whiter bodied one) is the one to be identified.

To me, it also looks like a Platie.

It's a platy, probably a hybrid as Marcos said as nearly all platies in the hobby are hybrids.

Okay, thank you. The one I pointed at is the white body one, the reason why I ask is because I have had it for 3 months and it has not had fry so I thought I might be some different species Embarassed , thank you.

Just because it hasn't bred doesn't mean it's not a Platy. Do you know how to sex them? Here's an article:

I am positive it is a female. I guess if it doesn't give birth that is okay.

Its a molly. No doubt in my mind, I've had the sunset plattys along with various mollys and you get so you can spot the subtle differences really quick.

P.s. if you breed what you have you should get some 'mickey mouse' plattys.

okay, I may have to get one more 20g to breed mollies Laughing . I heard you can get a hybrid from mollies and platys, is this true or is it only for platys and swordtails? I have WAAY to many platies in that tank so I am going to put a few of the the "teenager" fry in my 10g to get it mature for my shrimp. At least I don't have a 55g tank FULL of convicts, dwarf gourami's and tinfoil barbs like my friend Laughing

It is not a molly. It is a mutt platy with strong swordtail and /or variatus tendencies leading to the slightly shallow body.
