Now that I look at the filter more closely, I don't think it's a Tetra Advanced, because the back of it is curvy and all. Haha, your boyfriend's lucky. But if CD's are remotely close to USD's, than that's REALLY expensive for just a board and outerwear.

ya its crazy expensive. but when you are almost a lvl 3 instructor and you are hell bent on cat/heli skiing terrain... you spend a lot of money on good/proper gear. he has already destroyed 2 helmets for snowboarding and 1 for downhill biking in 2009... goodbye $800. on the plus side hes still alive. and I don't know the model of the filter for sure. I'm away from home for 5 days...

You let the tank mature before you get another one and then get one that is larger than the barbs.

It probably dies and was then eaten as barbs rarely bother plecs although your tank is rather bare of hiding places.

I got back home today, I have some algae growing on the rocks and the tank walls - I'm going to have to go out and buy another bushynose tomorrow. I guess ill just have to cram some of my fake plants back into the tank for hiding places, as the bushynose they have at the store are quite little, and 2 shrimp just don't eat enough algae to clean a 55gallon tank

Just sayin' but the cause of your algae may be nitrate's, if not than you have what I like to say is CGROTA or Can't get rid of this algae Laughing . Good luck! I plan on getting cherry barb's for my 55 gallon

The plants I bought earlier are doing amazingly, I tied the one that used to be behind the log and planted onto the log - and I found theres actually 2 plants there - yay!

Bought another banana plant, a water sprite, and something that did not have a tag on it, so it is a mystery plant.

bought 5 more tiger barbs (bigger than the ones I have in there now), and 6 Zebra danios to match my current 2. replaced the bushynose that got eaten.

Pics will come up when my water clears up from the planting/etc

Daniosman, just so you know, danios are technically shoaling, not schooling. Schooling is where they move together in uniform, and shoaling is when they go off on their own and all, but still come back and socialize. I think zebra danios are the best example of this behavior.

Thank you so much for that information! I never knew the difference and always thought those were synonyms. =)

Also, love the tank! I wonder if you could add "torpedo barbs" to this setup. They are hard to find but incredibly lovely and lively. I only wish I had a bigger tank to have those.
