Would really depend on the type and the amount of filtration you are planning. If you have only "90"g worth of filtration you will only be able to get a few. If you want more you will defiantly have to increase filtration as gold fish tend to be messy.

We have an Eheim classic cannister 2217, would that do? Maybe combined with a weekly 20% water refreshment?

29% weekly is a minimum water change requirement for large messy fish.
That filter should suffice but you'd probably need to do weekly 30% water changes combined with good gravel cleaning to keep common goldies. Fancy goldfish are a better choice for aquaria and you could probably manage five fish.
- doesn't sound a lot but look at this one. OK Bruce is exceptional but most fancies with proper care should reach three quarters of his size.

Fancy goldfish are indeed a good alternative. Five sounds good to us - for each family member one!

The big of a tank you can stock about 10 fancy gold fish they will grow huge plus the fancy ones look real cool.10 goldfish would be almost the limit for your 90 gallon. With the waste from the two plecos in there, plus the other fish, I don't know that I would add anymore. At least not unless you move the goldfish to their own tank that can be kept a bit cooler for them.
