my lfs a couple weeks ago got a shippment of plecos. As usual theres a few deads ones a a few soon to be. There was this one "bristel nose" pleco that was upside down on the bottom of the tank and all you could see was his gills moving. I went to go scoop it out to go put in one of our Qt tanks. MY manager told me that I should just throw it away it won't last. I asked him if I could buy it. he just laughed, and said jokingly sure if you want him ill give it to you for a pepsi. I walked back into our staff room got my .50$ bought a pepsi and walked out and handed him a pepsi. he then asked whats this for. I quickly replyed " you said I could buy your pleco for a can of pepsi and here it is" while chuckling he laughed and told me it was all mine.

now mind you this pleco was so ghostly white that I was scared that it would die from the netting. I brought him home and after 3 weeks of good care and some treatments guess what type of pleco he is? yes a zebra. I brought in a picture of him to work today and my boss asked me where I got it since we don't see any. I told him I got it at work. he started getting mad cause he thought I stole it and then I had to remind him of the story above. and he offered me 22$ for it. needless to say I know what these guys are worth and I've wanted one for along time I'm happy. ill try to through up the picture here to show you guys

I find this very surprising as even dead H. zebra still have very obvious stripes.

Aren't there pleco species that look very much like the expensive zebra variety, but are much easier on the wallet? Maybe someone could give you a positive ID if you manage to find a camera to post a picture.. perhaps you could find a scanner and scan in the picture you took to show to your boss?

That does suck tbrkaiser... though I have heard from a few people that Brazil is revising the lists they have on what can and can't be caught and exported, does anyone know if this is actually happening or if it's just more hopeful wishing on a lot of hobbyists part?

Me... I'm hoping for a queen arabesque Very Happy
