silent_rock_faery, That sounds like a good way to put down a large fish. Or just use a hammer. It would be like a gun shot to the head quite instant and painless.

ya but still, I could never do that. what I do if a fish is sick is I isolate it then wait till it dies or gets better. if it dies I either burry the fish in a garden. or put it in the creek behind my house. there nature will take its course. but the important thing to remember is that this was a comercial and I'm sure they did not really flush a live fish.

Please don't put anything from an aquarium, living or dead, into a natural watercourse or pond.

Doing so could spread pathogens ( and is most likely illegal depending on where you live).

Sometimes euthanasia is the only and/or best option when a fish is beyond recovery.

true, but like I said, I seperate the sick fish from the rest and let nature take its course.

No it would hit a grinder pump within a few blocks...... Quick death. Sorry but I do know these things.

Not always quick, and not always death at all. You should read this:

Goldfish survives loo flush

A goldfish which survived being flushed down the toilet is enjoying a new lease of life after being rescued from a sewage plant.

Worker Jake Huey noticed the fish flailing on a mesh filtering screen he was cleaning at the Scottish Water site near East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire.

He picked it up and rushed to the treatment building, where he put it in water in an emergency tank.

The fish, nicknamed Pooh, is now being looked after at the Philipshill Waste Water Treatment Works (WWTW) until a new home can be found for it.

Mr Huey said: "Obviously someone thought their pet was on its last legs and flushed it down the toilet, which obviously we wouldn't advise.

"The fish has rallied as it made its way through the waste water network underneath the streets of East Kilbride and popped up in our screens totally revived.

"This is one lucky little fish. We just need to find a good home for him now."
