Can I second the suggestion to find a new fish store;-

Live sand is never dry.
If you let live sand dry out it is unsafe without a lot of conditioning (basically using the dead matter to fuel a cycle) but I suspect the stuff on sale is coral sand which has no associated live material.

Buy the recomended book, it will pay for itself many times over.

thanks florida boy after reading that book once it comes ill probably shy away and since my marine system, witch I got the OK to go with, has to have fish my mother likes, gasp cough, I feel like I'm gonna have lots to explain to her why you can't have every fish that looks good togather in a tank and why I need to get a big tank if she want those yellow tangs.
