My female Oscar has a strange fetish with an empty killans bottle I put in the tank for a joke...I was going to remove it but all the fish seem to enjoy the thing so I left it. But over the last month or two the female Oscar has started guarding the bottle and obsessing over it. I did a waterchange last night and moved her bottle during my gravel vac...this is a video of the end result.

Here she is attacking the glass at the sight of me Mad I do like the worried look on the male Os face as he hides in the corner.

Yep...shes pissed, look at that bleached outness

Still angry...but better since I fed her

Noticeably still loathing the sight of me, but atleast shes not trying to kill me...I don't think Ill stick my hand in there for a few days. Shocked

Funny, but what a strange behavior. I think she sees some greater purpose in that bottle, some fish really do have some interesting behavior.

Does she attack your hand whenever you go near it?

Ya, that is strange behavior, I say give the bottle back.

No, but I've never moved it before...I always just vacuumed around it. But being the OCD fish keeper I am I moved it to vac under it and didn't put it back just where it was and shes went nuts since. I got a yard stick and moved it back and shes fine again Laughing They are such funny creatures Razz

LOL I can see the resemblance Laughing

That's hilarious! It's almost like when a husband doesn't replace the toilet paper and the wife flips out about it until he replaces it. Is she still being pissy with you? Or is she totally OK now?

I constantly advocate getting an Oscar...theyre one of the most fun fish you can own Smile

But I fixed her bottle back where she likes it and she seems a little better...that and I fed her some seafood. Sad ya have to bribe a fish to like you, I feel like that ugly kid that their mom had to tie a steak around their neck so the puppy would notice them Laughing

Lol!!! She just wanted you to know that she really appreciates the bottle you gave and likes it RIGHT where you left it!

I find it SO funny that she knew where just where the bottle was before and threw a temper tantrum until you put it back!

I may have to look into getting Oscars one day.

Thats both funny and fantastic. I love the varied personalities of Cichlids!
I'd love one or two oscars too, but lack the room for the tank size needed.

Can I ask how big she and her mate is at this moment?

I've heard a lot of info about how people believe the Oscar fish's intelligence is equal to that of a small child...so I'm sure she does know where its supposed to be and who moved it. I just hope shes like Dori and forgets really soon Laughing

Right now my pair is right at 12" long...not bad for a year and a half old fish, I expect theyll reach 14-15" before its over they seem to still be growing nicely.
