I've read that artificial moonlighting in marine tanks can stimulate reproduction among some fish. Is this true? If so, what fish is this most likely to have an effect on? _________________ "I wish, I wish, I wish I were a Fish" - The Incredible Mr. Limpet |

swede,
You know what? The truth is...nothings proven. Lunar cycles don't always stimulate breeding in any circumstance. They tried this with corals using lunar cycles but even that proved inconclusive. Apparently, there's more involved than just a bright blue LED above the tank in the darkness; could be a gravitational pull; cooler water changes due to the darkness; possible minor change or drop in pH (due to 0-photosession). It's difficult to say what stimulates breeding cycles. |

Thanks AOW. I just got some "moonlight" lighting for my marine tank, and was wondering about this. Well, I'll just enjoy the effect and see what happens. I appreciate the counsel. _________________ "I wish, I wish, I wish I were a Fish" - The Incredible Mr. Limpet |

You're welcome. Just remember though, if the hobby gets to be too much work...there's always freshwater.
hahahahaha. Just kidding. I would hate for the wrong person to read this quote. |
