I currently have 4 Giant Danios in a 55 Gallon heated community tank. I'm feeling like the tank is a bit overstocked so I was wondering if they could be relocated to a 30g cold water tank (room temp) to live with a couple of fan tail goldfish. _________________ MJ
As danios are very active and goldfish are slow swimmers, I don't think that would be a good idea. Especially fantail goldfish, they will probably get their tails nipped. It makes slow moving fish nervous to be around active swimmers. Giant Danios also need warmer waters, around 72-81 degrees F. _________________
I beg to differ, Giant Danios are native to the fresh water rivers and streams of Southeast Asia where temp range from 17 _________________ Years of fish keeping = Good advice
Thanks for the info. I might try and make the change this week since the weather has been so hot that my cold water tank is only 5 deg cooler than the tropical tank. _________________ MJ

Another thought to the idea of danios being added to a goldfish setup , is that the diet between the two is different.Goldfish have a lot of vegetable content in their foods where as danios take in both a vegetable and meat.Speaking from my own experiences , goldfish will not like water that has a higher temperature.
Thanks for all the advice. My 'cold water' tank is not heated. It just stays at room temperature which does fluctuate seasonally. Right now it tends towards the upper 70's. For most of the rest of the year it stays at about 68f.
I give them a variety of foods including frozen brine shrimp, blood worms, flakes, peas and corn. I also recently discovered that the fantails really like pineapple and grapes (crushed of course). _________________ MJ
