One more question. Do they eat each other? How do you control their populations? _________________ Sunstar's Seeker Sanctuary |

In snail infested tanks the A. helena will breed like crazy of course feeling all that potential food.
Sell them online or to your LFS, or give them to your Local Aquarium Org, etc...
Or keep just one A. helena in a 10 galls. The most important thing is folk should not go for Clow Loaches to keep the snail population down in a 10 galls

So collect them up and sell them.
I don't have a snail problem yet, but my trumpets are breeding in a cup right now until I can transfer them to the tanks once I eliminate hydra. I think in future I can get the A. Helena. My tanks are too small for loaches and the bio-load would not handle it anyway.
What else would they eat? Shrimp, Fish, Planaria, Fingertps? _________________ Sunstar's Seeker Sanctuary |

I would say anything meaty;
my eat small snails, krill flakes, Crab Cuisine from Hikari.
They aren't capable of attacking living shrimps nor fish.
They might also feed on small worms, hydra and protozoans not sure but is possible.

I received four healthy A. helena snails. I refer to them fondly by Jacko's nickname of "assassin snails." They are currently in a 5.5g tank because the tank they were intended for (55g) is going through columnaris. Does anyone know if columnaris affects snails?
They are very good snail killers. I've been taking snails out of my healthy mbuna tanks and feeding them to the assassins. They make short work of them! I've also discovered that the A. helena like Hikari sinking shrimp pellets. _________________ Dumpster Tank
