I wouldn't recommend quoting everything that everyone says in a post, but if there's a specific member that seems to be completely changing the info provided, I'd do it. |

There have been 3 that I can think of, but it hasn't happened in the past few days.
Had I known they were going to edit, I would have quoted the original post. _________________ --Kathy-- |

Hi Deb, I got the smilies from getsmile. Paid for the full version of them. Get upgrades and new smilies.

They are posted just like posting pictures and other images on the forum Right click, copy image location (or something similar), paste with the img tags. Ta dum! You can find free smilies by googling. Best Smilies is a decent site. _________________ --Kathy-- |

No, I wasn't joking with my editing suggestion.
I've edited my own posts before obviously to fix typos and wording, but I've never felt like I absolutely had to do it. For me if it came down to a choice between people back-editing their posts, or suppressing editing, I would be in favor of the latter.
I haven't really used editing in the ways you mention, so I never found it critical. I didn't realize it was used to the extent that it is. _________________ A Quarter Fathom Journal

Based on all these years running the board I can't see the issue of someone editing on purpose to cause trouble being so serious that it would justify giving up the massive benefit of allowing everyone to edit their posts at any time.
When people edit their posts after they've been replied to, a message notifying this occurrence (and the time it happened) is attached to the end of each post. In the rare case where you feel that the edit was made to break the discussion sequence on purpose, you main voice that in the topic, or if you think it's being done recurrently by a troublemaker, just contact the moderation team.
As already mentioned, quoting the relevant passages of a previous post is also a nice trick against any later tampering from the other member because he can't touch the quote inside your message. I've used that many times myself. But please Please PLEASE don't blindly quote the entire message, especially if it's more than a few lines long.
The standard mindset for quoting in any situation should always be: What is the minimum amount of quoted text from a message I can leave that will serve the purpose of my quoting it in the first place? And everything else should be edited out from your message composition. _________________

Out of curiosity, how often does this happen? Has this been an unusually bad streak in the last few days?

No, Marcos. Don't leave!! I just had a bad idea, that's all!

I just noticed something. The line that used to appear at the bottom of posts to notate that they had been edited (I.e. "Edited 1 time. Last edited 2007.04.16" or something like that) doesn't seem to be showing up any longer. I came across a post I know had been edited (the OP had clarified his original question, therefore making the replies seem silly ) and it did not have the tagline saying it had been edited. Now, I just edited one of my own posts to add to it and the line is not there. Is there a reason? _________________ Dumpster Tank
