OK, as most of you that know me, u know my pleco passed away a few days ago, but for those of you that don't, I have 4 6-8in commets only in a 30 gl tank(yes I know its way over stocked I never knew it would come to this 8yrs ago) anyway, I need an algae eater that is cheapish, not to big, not to small, fairs well with large goldfish doesn't make too much waste and won't be a snack for the goldfish. if any one has ideas please let me know. I would greatly apriciate it. thanks!!

Hi Fishy,

I would not put an algae eater in your tank at all. As you said, it's overstocked, and adding another fish would only cause more problems. I would control algae by not leaving your lights on very often and manually wiping algae off your glass. There are special magnets you can buy at the LFS that make cleaning algae off glass a breeze.

There are methods of controlling algae using live plants but I'm no plant expert so I won't be able to help you there. Additionally, I don't know which plants are "goldfish friendly."

Have you considered giving your goldfish to someone with a pond or a larger tank? They would be much happier and healthier in the long run. In overstocked conditions, they are in danger of dying like your pleco.
